Negligent drivers pose dangers for summer travelers

Hopefully, you will have plenty of time this summer to be with your family and friends. One of the great joys of summer is being able to take a road trip or vacation with the people you care about. It is extremely important to be aware of the potential hazards you may face while driving.

The more time you spend on the road, the more likely you are to encounter dangerous situations. Many of these situations are created by the negligence of other drivers. For example, even though it is common knowledge that distracted driving is responsible for many serious and fatal accidents, far too many drivers still routinely look away from the road to read a text or dial a phone.

Likewise, you have to watch out for drivers who get behind the wheel while impaired by alcohol or drugs. These drivers are typically more prominent at night and in the early morning hours. So too are drivers who are on the road when they really should be getting some rest. The effects of fatigue can actually affect a driver's skills in a manner similar to drinking or taking certain drugs.

It takes only a second for a negligent driver to cause a serious accident. The victims of such accidents can suffer catastrophic injuries. When this happens, the prospect of seeking appropriate compensation can be daunting.

At Blackburn & Stoll, the attorneys that make up our Personal Injury Department understand the challenges faced by those who have been involved in car accidents.
